UPDATE 2/16/2022: I got my notes mixed up and mistakenly wrote that this roll was Ilford HP5+, but it was (slightly) expired Arista.EDU Ultra 400. I confirmed by looking at the negatives. The post has been corrected as a result.
I’ve been waiting for a snowy day to take some black and white photos! I was excited about the snow, so I picked up another roll of Arista.EDU Ultra 400 and gave it a go.

After developing and scanning this roll, my excitement wasn’t as palpable. The whole roll lacks a lot of contrast and detail.

I was also trying to capture the snow as it was falling, but you can’t see anything.

The trees and leaves show minimal detail. While bad exposure is the biggest contributing factor, the grain doesn’t help matters. There’s no detail of the folds and texture of the snow on the cars.
The pictures are also very dark. If I remember right, they got blown out when I tried to adjust them after scanning

I developed these pictures like the last few rolls, using semi-stand 100:1 Rodinal for 1 hour. I was hoping that would build up the mid-tones and shadows, but unfortunately it didn’t work. However, I had better luck on my next roll.
