As mentioned in a previous post, my scanners died. My flatbed scanner was intermittently putting lines in the photos and my older dedicated film scanner’s motor died. I had recently picked up a Nikon CoolScan LS-40 and then a Nikon CoolScan LS-5000. I had re-scanned two rolls of black and white film in those scanners, but they were really dirty. There were water drying spots everywhere and it was just too much to take care of digitally.

I’ve tried fighting that by editing them digitally, but I gave up. So I’m going a little out of order here. I’ll post those soon as I re-clean the negatives and scan them back in. In the meantime, I’ve processed a roll of color film, and I’m trying this stock out for the first time. It’s Cinestill 50D film. It is the same formulation as Kodak Vision 3 50D motion picture film but without the remjet layer.

I’m not sure if it was the scanner, but the color balance seemed all over the place. Some I hardly didn’t have to touch at all. Others, I had to heavily adjust, and probably not for the best. Anyway, I had a good time with this. I will note that a lot of my macro shots are out of focus. My focus can sometimes be leaves in the background or forground, instead of the subject. Live and learn I suppose.
